Canonical Design hat in einem Blogpost die Prioritäten für Ubuntu TV genauer festgelegt.

Essential

• 10′ interface
• Watching Media (DVR, Live, Network(TV Guide is part of DVR/other services))
• Control via remote control

High priority

•  Plugin support- Cloud and/or server storage (for home grown media)
•  Playback of physical media (USB cd/dvd/bluray drive)
•  Installable image
•  Easy configuration of new devices (eg. installing same plugins, mounting same network shares)
•  Ubuntu One Accounts
•  Push media to/from other Ubuntu devices / Media syncing capabilities (Pause on one device, resume from same spot on another device)
•  Collaborate with other Ubuntu devices (context: https://lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-phone/msg00006.html )
•  Control from portable devices (phones/tablets/web interface/PC) (collaboration with Ubuntu Phone/Tablet?)

Medium priority

•  Sharing media with friends (social network connectivity)
•  Purchasing media through online stores (Ubuntu one/Amazon/Netflix)

An dieser Liste gefallen mir gleich mehrere Dinge. So steht beispielsweise Bluray weit oben, aber es soll auch ein installierbares Image geben. Dem selbst gebauten HTPC mit Ubuntu TV steht dann also nichts im Weg.

Gut ist auch, dass Social Sharing und der Kauf von Videos eine niedrigere Priorität haben. Der letzte Punkt wird zwar wichtig für Ubuntu, um weitere Einnahmequellen zu erschließen, die Community dürfte aber erstmal weniger Interesse daran haben.

Ich bin schon echt gespannt darauf und bereue fast, dass ich mir erst kürzlich einen Media Player gekauft habe. Besonders gespannt bin ich auf die Fernbedienung und wie das gelöst werden soll. Und ich bin neugierig, was sich sonst noch so tut (Kinekt, Wii Controller…)
